The lad in this photo was John Falconer of Rosehill, Bo’ness, a member of a great sporting family who grew up to become a Powderhall sprinter in the early 1900s.

His brother William was the British heavyweight all-in wrestling champion at one time, and his brother Bob, who lived in Canada, wrestled until he was 65.

John worked at Victoria Sawmill and married Jeanie Weir Cameron, originally of Stewart Avenue. They had two sons and four daughters, who all stayed locally.

John passed away in 1955 aged 72, at his daughter Isabella’s house at Mannerston, Linlithgow.

His granddaughter, the late Isabella’s daughter, Sheena, kindly submitted the photo to us, which had been passed down the family.
