IT WAS party time at St Michael’s Hospital on Tuesday when resident Bett Ainslie marked her first century.
Bett got herself all dolled up for her big day and celebrated with family and friends receiving presents and her own special card from HM The Queen.
Hailing from Portobello in Edinburgh, Bett was born on May 29, 1912, and as a teenager started off her career in the local Post Office and later in Aldershot. It was through the Post Office that she met her husband John who was also her next door neighbour, when she was in her mid 20s. Bett moved in to St Michael’s four years ago and she enjoys life in the royal burgh, being regularly visited by nieces and grand-nieces.
She added: “I don’t really know how I’ve made it to 100! I’ve always been busy and had lots of friends. I was a swimming instructor at Portobello, so maybe that helped. I’ve had a very good life.”
