West Lothian joined in the celebrations at the first ever World Book Night.
Local residents were invited to come to Howden Park Centre on Monday, 23 April, between 7pm and 9pm to celebrate books and reading.
World Book Night aimed to encourage non and light readers to read more and discover the joy of reading. Members of the public could apply to become a World Book Night Book ‘Giver’ where you receive 24 copies of one of the 25 World Book Night books, which you then can give away to friends family or strangers for them to read and pass onto as many people as possible.
Around 25 people came along on the night, with activities including a book quiz provided by Waterstones, readings from some of World Book Night’s 25 specially selected books by librarian Andrew Menzies, and the chance to look around a mobile library.
The event was a partnership between West Lothian Council’s Community Arts and Libraries services with retailer Waterstones. For more information, please visit http://www.worldbooknight.org/about-world-book-night
