LOCAL Olympians and Paralympians have been given a rousing send off as they head for London this summer.

A small reception was held at West Lothian Civic Centre for some of those involved in the games, including Cameron and Gregor
Cochrane from Linlithgow, who took part the Olympic Torch Relay event at Edinburgh
Castle, along with four children from West Lothian, as part of the Children’s Promise events, who were all born on December 20, 2004.

They were joined by Pat and Vic Hockley from Livingston, who are officials at the games due to their work with Scottish Athletics, and gold medal-winning swimmer Jim Anderson OBE, who will represent Great Britain at a sixth Paralympic games.

West Lothian’s Provost Tom Kerr, council leader John McGinty and chief executive
Graham Hope, wished them every success.

Provost Tom Kerr said: “It was a great pleasure to meet some of the people who will represent West Lothian at Olympics and Paralympics events. We know that there are many people from across West Lothian either competing or supporting the Olympic and Paralymic Games, whatever their role they are all great ambassadors for West
Lothian. On behalf of West Lothian we wish them all well.”
