92-year-old’s bag stolen by bogus caller

A 92-YEAR-OLD woman has been robbed of a handbag from her home in Dundas Street, Bo’ness, after a bogus caller visited, pretending to offer gardening services.

While she was distracted, the fake workman managed to steal the item.

Police have described the theft as ‘‘cowardly and heartless’’.

Central Scotland Police issued an appeal last Friday for the theft, which occurred on Thursday, March 15.

A spokesperson for the Bo’ness Community Policing Team said: “This is a cowardly and heartless crime and the public are encouraged to contact police if they have any information on 01786 456000.

“Police would urge the public to be wary of cold callers offering services and on no account permit them entry unless convinced of their credentials and intentions.

‘‘Always ask for identification which a genuine caller will always have.”
