ANNET HOUSE has acquired a spectacular old map of Linlithgow, which dates back to 1818, in unusual circumstances.

The huge map was originally intended to be a unique decoration for local pub, Platform 3. However, on seeing its size, owner Ian Gibson realised that there would be no where to put it in his tavern.

“A friend had told me of this antique map that someone he knew was looking to get rid of, they had purchased it some time before but no longer wanted it.

“It has such a rich history, so I still wanted to buy it. I have now offered it to Annet House, on loan, to go on display when the museum re-opens in the spring.”

The map was commissioned by the Hopetoun family and details the land which the owned, and details the different parishes from that year.

“You can buy replicas of this map, however this a true original. The detail on it is incredible,” Ian added.

“I believe that Annet House intend to have it on display with a light that only comes on when you are near. This will help prevent it from becoming damaged.”
