WHEN the bell rang at the end of term it summoned the end of a 40 year career for a much-loved teacher at St Joseph’s Primary School, Linlithgow.

Kate Nelson (60) is looking forward to an extended holiday after teaching in the local school for an incredible four decades during which time she has worked with four headteachers and around 30 teaching colleagues. She has taught approximately 1000 children from primary four to primary seven with a total of 27 years at the primary seven stage.

Headteacher Margaret Johns praised Kate’s dedicated and enthusiastic service to the school, adding: “She has been a constant at the school during this time and will be sorely missed.

‘‘Her colleagues, her pupils over the years and their parents all joined together to wish Kate a much-deserved and happy retirement.”

Kate who lives locally said: “I’m looking forward to a good rest and I’m planning to take art classes and do a lot of knitting, walking and reading.

‘‘I would like to thank all parents and pupils past and present.”
