THEFTS of filled bags for the British Heart Foundation have been reported to local police.
One resident who does not wish to be named was upset after she put out a bag recently filled with items, some of which were new and unused. She said that in the future she would only be handing things into a charity shop directly.
A spokesperson at the BHF shop in Bathgate said this is a recurring problem all over West Lothian and that police have been informed.
She said: “There’s not much we can do other than telling the police. This affects the charity. I don’t know what these people get out of it - they are probably selling them on to make money.”
Community cop Brian Reid confirmed there had been a similar case of BHF bags being stolen from the town just before Christmas and although police had attended on collection day, no thieves had turned up. If you know anything about the theft of charity bags in the town, please contact Linlithgow Police Station on 01506 844592.
