Today’s the day when Christmas comes early for three local groups, courtesy of the Caledonian Christmas Cracker.
Our annual cash giveaway is run in conjunction with Caledonian Produce in Bo’ness, and today is the big reveal.
All 11 groups who made it through to the final thanks to your votes are gathering at Bo’ness Town Hall today (Friday) as we unveil the top three winners.
The first prize is £2000, the second prize £1000 and the third spot winner will take home £500.
The prize pot is donated by the Caledonian team from the proceeds of their staff shop.
Last week a judging panel made up of members of the 1200-strong Caledonian workforce and Journal and Gazette representatives met to debate all the finalists, before voting on the winners.
Journal and Gazette editor Jackie Mitchell said: ‘‘The judging panel had a really tough decision as the groups in the running all do remarkable jobs in their communities.
‘‘It’s inspiring to see all this good work being done by so many volunteers and on behalf of so many good causes, and I hope everyone will agree that the winners being unveiled today really deserve the cash. Our thanks go to Caledonian Produce for sponsoring the event.’’
In no particular order the final 11 are:
Bo’ness Playaway Playgroup, St Michael’s Day Centre, Linlithgow, West Lothian Clarion Youth Section, Linlithgow Link, Carriden Community Volunteer Group, Unison Kinneil junior and senior band, Forth Bridges Accordion Band, Bo’ness Hospital Garden Project, SRPS Youth Group, Epilepsy Connections and Corey Yeadon Wheelchair Fund.
Full details of the winners and their plans for the cash will be revealed in the paper next Friday, December 27.
