BRIDGEND Primary School pupil Chelsea Minto is looking forward excitedly to August 4.
For the 11-year-old Primary 7 pupil - who only arrived in the village in the summer of 2011 - has been chosen as the village’s 2012 gala queen.
In a simple ballot, all the P7 girls’ names were dropped into the hat and when the draw was made at the tail end of last week it was Chlesea’s name which was drawn.
And this week Chelsea vowed to enjoy every minute of the day and give the village a gala day to remember.
Speaking to the Journal and Gazette from her home at 22 Auldhill Avenue, she said: ‘‘I’m very excited about it and really looking forward to the big day.
‘‘It should be a lot of fun and I really want to enjoy it. I don’t think I’ll be nervous at all.’’
At Chelsea’s right hand will be chief lady and classmate Amanda Swarbrick.
Chelsea moved to Bridgend from Whitburn in June last year with her parents Kelly (32) and Derek (36). She has three brothers, Luke (8), Derek (6) and Finlay (3).
Dad Derek said: ‘‘The preparations are already in hand for a house frontage!
‘‘We’re all very excited for Chelsea and looking forward even more to this year’s gala day.’’
Sadie O’Neill, gala day chairwoman - and next door neighbour to the Minto family - said: ‘‘We’ve had a few teething problems getting the gala day under way but I think we’ve resolved all of those issues and are now ready to move forwards with our plans for this year’s event.
‘‘I’m sure Chelsea and the rest of the retinue will do the village proud come August 4.’’
The next fundraiser for the gala day is an Easter fayre in the community centre on April 7, from 1-4pm.
