FUNNY in Falkirk – Central Scotland’s Comedy Festival – kicks off this weekend, with Bo’ness running its own set of comedy shows and movies.

Over 50 live performances are taking place in venues across Falkirk, Grangemouth, Stenhousemuir, Bo’ness, Bonnybridge and Denny until Tuesday, August 2.

Big names like Stephen K Amos and Stewart Francis, Scottish comedy favourites Elaine C Smith and Fred MacAulay, and laughter legend Frank Carson are all set to appear.

Bo’ness will play its part, hosting two comedy shows at Bo’ness Town Hall, on July 23 and 29.

The Hippodrome will also screen a series of comedy films during the Festival (see www.falkirk.gov.uk/hippodrome)

Bo’ness councillor Adrian Mahoney, the convener of leisure, tourism and community at Falkirk Council – which is backing the festival – said: “Central Scotland’s new comedy festival was a huge hit with local people last year.

“I hope local people give it their support this year.

“Falkirk Council is delighted to work with the Falkirk BID and the Scottish Comedy Agency to deliver the festival.

“There are big names, beginners’ spots, and fun for children.

“It’s great that that people can see live comedy across the district, not just Falkirk itself.

“And the added bonus of comic movies at the Hippodrome itself is great news. There should be something for everyone.”

Festival organisers have kept ticket prices low and special deals include two shows for £8 at 20 Rocks in Falkirk.

Brochures should be available now at local outlets and more details are online at www.funnyinfalkirk.com
