Motorist David Stanley has been banned from the roads for one year after driving his high-sided delivery van over the Forth Road Bridge in strong winds on December 5, 2013.
Stanley, (63) from London, was found guilty of dangerous driving after trying to take his van over the bridge, battling winds of around 90 miles per hour. The vehicle was blown over, as our picture – taken from the CCTV footage – shows.
Denying the charge, Stanley said in court that he “didn’t even know he was on the bridge”. But he was found guilty after trial at Dunfermline Sheriff Court of dangerous driving and failing to comply with road signs, warning that the bridge was closed.
