The discovery of two bodies in a house in South Queensferry has sparked a full investigation by police who say they are still treating the deaths as ‘unexplained’ at present.
Officers were called to the house in Echline Gardens at around 5pm yesterday after the bodies are believed to have been discovered by the couple’s elder daughter Laura, 27, after she arrived at the home they have shared for 23 years. The couple, named locally as Donna, 51, and Kenneth Graham, 52, were due to celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary next week. Detectives are conducting door-to-door inquiries in the area, but the investigation – which is being carried out by the Major Investigation Team – was still at an early stage said Police Scotland.
Detective Chief Inspector Gary Cunningham, who is in charge of the investigation, said: “This is a tragic event and our thoughts are with the immediate family and friends of the victims.
“We still have some investigations to carry out, and police are likely to be in the area for the next few days, however I can confirm that we are not looking for anyone in connection with these deaths.”
The couple - who also have a 23-year-old daughter called Lisa - were due to celebrate their Pearl wedding anniversary on Monday, March 3.
The street was still sealed off as detectives conducted door-to-door inquiries in the area. Police said they would be talking to the immediate family, but the investigation – which is being carried out by the Major Investigation Team – was still at an early stage.
Shocked neighbours could only express their horror.
One, who asked not to be named, said: “It’s absolutely tragic. They’ve lived in the area for a really long time and almost everyone knew them.
“They used to go out for walks quite a lot during the summer and would always say hello to everyone.
“Our thoughts are with their two daughters.”
The couple were married at St Stephen’s Comely Bank Parish Church in Edinburgh on March 3, 1984, and lived close to the city centre until they moved to South Queensferry.
Another neighbour, who again wished to remain anonymous, said: “I came home from work yesterday afternoon just as the first two police cars came speeding down the road with their lights on.
“There was loads of officers around overnight and it all seemed a bit cloak and dagger really.
She added: “We’re quite new to the area and didn’t really know Donna and Kenny but they always seemed happy enough and would say hello.”
Just before 1.30pm a private ambulance pulled up to the house and a body was removed from the property.
