QUEENSFERRY teenager Danielle McKay is planning to travel to South Africa to care for and teach young children.
Danielle has been selected as a volunteer by Project Trust, an educational charity based on the Isle of Coll, which sends British youngsters overseas to 23 different countries annually.
The sixteen-year-old decided to apply for a placement when one of the charity’s ambassadors visited her school (Queensferry High),
Danielle explained: “I’ve always wanted to do something abroad and have always been interested in childcare and this brought them both together.’’
To take part, Danielle needs to raise £5100 by the end of July to enable her to go on her eight month placement. So far she has raised over £2000 by organising a variety of activities and ticketed events. In January she was sponsored to take part in the Loony Dook, and has since staged two fundraising nights at the local bowling club which have proved to be a great way of raising cash.
Danielle still has a long way to go to reach her target but if anyone is willing to assist her goal of getting to South Africa, you can make a donation online at www.justgiving.com/ danielle-mckay
