When the New Year honours are announced, the headlines are always grabbed by the celebrities and sports personalities who have received gongs.
This year is no different, with Penelope Keith and Angela Lansbury becoming dames and football boss and ‘Apprentice’ star Karren Brady receiving a CBE.
However, over 74 per cent of the honours go to people who shy away from the spotlight, doing good work in their communities and helping to improve the lives of others.
The local recipients are no different and it is fitting that they are honoured alongside the famous names for their selfless work and efforts. Congratulations to all those whose work has been celebrated in the honours.
