Fish and chip lovers will enjoy a little financial boost at the Three Bridges in South Queensferry as they will still be able to use the old £1 coin at a chip shop.
The coin is no longer legal tender after it was officially withdrawn from circulation yesterday (Sunday) but chip shop chain Harry Ramsden’s is encouraging diners to use the old-style coin to purchase their meal until the end of the month.
Frank Romano, brand director for the Harry Ramsden’s chain said: “Given there are so many of the old coins still around, this deadline has obviously caught many people off guard.
“As a family brand, we feel that it’s only fair that we do our bit, especially with Christmas fast approaching – a time when every penny counts.
“Within our popular Three Bridges restaurant, customers enjoying main courses from our menu will be able to give us as many as five old £1 coins, thereby saving up to £5 from their total bill.”
