A golfing enthusiast has secured the post of a lifetime as a volunteer at the Ryder Cup.

Douglas Guest, who learned his golf on the St Andrews links courses, applied to be a volunteer at the biennial tournament and has been invited to participate as a steward.

That means he will get a grandstand view of the on- course action when Great Britain and Europe take on the might of the United States later this month.

Said Douglas: “I’ve carried the scoreboard for Stephen Gallacher at the Johnnie Walker tournament at Gleneagles and I’m quite excited at the prospect of being involved at the Ryder Cup.”

“It will mean 5am rises every day that week,” added Douglas, of Carse View, Springfield, Linlithgow.
