Motorists are reminded to plan ahead and consider alternative travel arrangements this weekend when a major traffic management scheme will reduce the M90 to just one lane southbound, resulting in potential delays of up to two hours or more.

These restrictions are in addition to those in operation on the M90 on weekdays, and more significant delays are expected during these weekend works as the southbound carriageway is reduced to one lane.

These traffic management restrictions, which were also in operation last weekend, will be in place between 8pm today (Friday, April 27) and 6am on Monday, April 30 and the contraflow will also be in operation for the weekends May 4-7 and May 11-14.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area and use alternative routes or modes of travel at these times.

ScotRail is providing additional capacity on 28 weekend services which cross the Forth Rail Bridge.

The train operator has also introduced its first ever off-peak season ticket between Edinburgh and Fife stations for the duration of the weekday works. The ticket – more than a third cheaper than a regular season ticket – is available until May 6.

These works were first announced on March 13 and have been well publicised since, including leaflets on trains and a series of radio adverts.

They are necessary for the resurfacing of the southbound carriageway as part of the Forth Replacement Crossing project and are expected to result in significant delays.

These traffic management works are weather dependent and may need to be rescheduled in the event of poor conditions.
