Concerns have been raised that a child will be seriously injured due to inconsiderate parking by a few selfish and thoughtless parents.&

Bo’ness pupils run a gauntlet of danger every day when leaving school due to adults on ‘the school run’ parking illegally outside, and in the vicinity of school premises.

The concern is now so great that a special meeting of the Parents Council Cluster is being held later this month to tackle the problem.

Councillor Ann Ritchie told the Journal and Gazette every school in the area is affected.

The councillor, who is spearheading the safety campaign said: “We need to encourage parents to put the welfare and well being of the children first.

Paul Fleming, headteacher at Kinneil Primary School said: “The main problem we have here is parents parking on the footpaths around the school thereby narrowing the area on which children can walk in relative safety.”

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “Local officers will continue to address this matter vigorously.

“Anyone wishing to raise a complaint in relation to dangerous or obstructive parking can speak with their local policing team.”

The meeting is to take place on Tuesday, November 19, in Bo’ness Public School at 7pm.
