A Linlithgow primary school pupil has walked away with a top honour - West Lothian’s Young Writer of the Year award.
Ellie Roy a P6 pupil at Springfield Primary School won the prestigious title with her creative story ‘Articia, Goddess of Art’, which calls on people to feel free to express themselves and achieve their full potential.
This year the competition attracted 8,547 entries from 56 local primary schools. Almost 250 guests attended the Awards ceremony at Howden Park Centre on Thursday, June 11, to see Ellie and 25 other prize winners receive their awards from councillors and award winning author Janis MacKay.
Presenting Ellie with her prize, Janis said: “I would like to congratulate all of the prize winners on their success and particularly Ellie who scooped the top Award with ‘Articia, Goddess of Art’.”
The event which is organised by library services, aims to encourage creative writing, promote reading and reward effort.
