THE Elinor Playgroup has announced it will shut its doors for the last time at the end of this month after at least 20 years in Linlithgow.
Staff made the sad decision to close at the playgroup’s AGM last Tuesday, and their final day will be November 30.
Sandie Brand, head of the playgroup committee, said: “We are all extremely sad to be closing, particularly in light of our excellent Care Commission report received only a few weeks ago.
“A number of factors, not least the low numbers of children attending playgroup since the summer holidays, have made the recent months a challenging time. We have made the decision to close now so that we are able to wind up in an organised fashion, giving our parents reasonable notice and our staff a fair redundancy package.”
The playgroup also wanted to thank all those who supported them over the the years, particularly parent committee members who helped with events and fundraisers.
Sandie added: “Without those individuals the playgroup would have closed a long time ago. We would also like to thank the Rotary Club and the Round Table for their generous support, and both the cricket club and sports club who have provided our premises. Finally, and most importantly, we would like to thank our staff who over the years have worked extremely hard to make the playgroup the excellent place it was for young children to play, learn, grow and develop.”
Toys and other playgroup equipment will be donated to another Linlithgow playgroup, and the committee hopes that parents continue to support the four remaining local playgroups and value the unique service they provide.
