Preparations are well underway for this year’s Ferry Fair Festival which will culminate on Saturday, August 15.
The queen-elect and the Gracious Lady have now been chosen and this week we unveil their identity.
With just over 13 weeks to the start of Ferry Fair Week, arrangements are already in hand at the Lane household as 10 year-old Alexandra will be crowned queen.
Alexandra, a primary six pupil at Queensferry Primary, is really looking forward to her big day.
Her older brother Nathan was a herald the last time Queensfery Primary supplied the retinue and her dream was also to be involved in some way.
But never in her wildest dreams did she expect to be picked as queen.
Alexandra said: ‘‘I was totally stunned and it took a couple of minutes for it to sink in. I ran all the way home to tell my mum and dad.’’
This year’s Gracious Lady is Moira Sinclair, wife of former Ferry Fair stalwart Kenny, who passed away in 2013. Moira is well-versed in the town’s annual festivities as her husband worked behind the scenes for over 17 years.
She said: ‘‘ I’m Dalmeny born and bred but when we married we moved to a flat on West Terrace so we always had a great vantage point for the Fair. We later moved to Echline where we enjoyed all the local street parties.’’
