Schoolchildren get in on the act at the Peel

Pupils from Low Port Primary and Linithgow Primary School joined forces with Fiona Hyslop MSP and Margaret Lumsdaine of the Marie Stuart Society to bury a time capsule in the plinth of a new seven foot tall bronze statue of Mary Queen of Scots to be erected in the Peel within the next few weeks. The statue is being cast in an Edinburgh foundry and Historic Scotland apprentices have been constructing the plinth. Fiona Hyslop, cabinet secretary for culture at the Sc ottish Parliament, said: ‘‘It’s wonderful to see pupils learning about the history of their immedate environment.’’
