Ellie McGinn is looking forward to being crowned 2014 Bridgend Gala Day Queen on Saturday, August 2.
The 11 year-old is more usually found playing netball or at the local youth club, but on the gala day she will be in all her finery accompanied by Carla her chief lady in waiting.
Ellie’s dress has only recently been purchased and is described as ‘‘quite plain’’ with a bolero to wear over it. Her grandmother, Eleanor McPhee, is in charge of hairdressing on the big day although the details of the style are to be decided.
Ellie’s great-grandparents, Mr and Mrs Muir, who are in their 80s, and also from Bridgend, are said to very much looking forward to the gala day this year.
The retinue is still to have a final practice session ahead of the event which takes place at the village community centre with a procession around the village.
Queen-Elect Ellie said: ‘I am excited but a bit worried about the speech.’
Mrs Debbie Day, wife of West Lothian councillor Martyn Day, will perform the crowning ceremony.
The small gala day committee is led by Mrs Mary Ridd who, sadly, will not be there on the day due to ill health.
