EARLY years officer Evelyn Craig retired from Bo’ness Public School Nursery last week after 24 happy years and admitted there were tears in her eyes as the children bid her farewell.
Evelyn (60) has been at the nursery since it opened in 1987, and in her time has welcomed the children of former pupils she also cared for!
She said: “There have been changes all the time in the nursery.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working there, especially with the nursery team.
“They have made it a pleasure and a joy to work with them.”
Evelyn thanked the nursery parents and Public School staff for all their wellwishes and the generous cheques they presented her with.
A meal and disco was also held in her honour at Grangemouth’s Leapark Hotel.
Asked why she was drawn to such a career, she said: “I just really enjoy working with children and encouraging them to get on in life.”
Hallglen’s Evelyn, married to Ian and with two sons and a granddaughter, looks forward to spending more time with her family. ”
Evelyn’s colleagues for the past six years have been early years officer Catherine Mullen and senior early years officer Marion Dixon.
Marion paid tribute to Evelyn, saying: “It’s been an absolute pleasure working with her.
“She’s certainly taught me a lot about the role of early years and will be sorely missed by all the staff, not just in the nursery but in the school.
“She’s a great laugh, always very enthusiastic and loved by all the children and parents.”
