dribble and dance your way to two fundraisers being held by Bo’ness pals Derek Frank and Euan Grant in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and Strathcarron Hospice.
A basketball tournament at Bo’ness Academy on Saturday, April 28, from 11am to 3pm is open to teams of three (£15 entry per team).
That same evening at West Lothian Golf Club, there will be a disco and auction from 7.30pm to midnight, with tickets (£10) including a buffet.
The lads, close friends since Academy days and now Stewart Avenue neighbours, were spurred into action after being touched by several cancer deaths.
These included Euan’s dad James, cared for at Strathcarron, and who passed away last summer.
Euan (31) undertook the 96-mile West Highland Way route last week and that feat, completed with good friend Kevin Sommerville, has seen a whopping £1125 already raised - smashing an initial target of £400.
“The response has been overwhelming,” he said.
With still a day left to walk, and sporting a knee and ankle sprain, Euan said: “I was feeling quite low but all the donations and support kept me going.”
The walkers’ cash will go direct to Strathcarron, which needs to raise £65,000 a week to provide its free care. Funds from the basketball and disco will be split between the hospice and Macmillan.
Of the 28th’s double header, Derek (30) said: “We really want to make it a success. How successful it is is driven by other people’s ability to help us.”
