THE village of Bridgend has picked its gala queen for 2013 and the lucky girl is Courtney Kelly.

Courtney (11) couldn’t believe her luck when she was chosen, since she’s been wanting to wear the crown since she was in nappies.

The primary 7 pupil said: “When I found out it was going to be me, I was very excited and happy because I’ve been in the gala day since I was only one year old!

‘’Ever since I was a wee girl I’ve always wanted to be Queen.”

Although the big day is not until August 3, Courtney is making sure she’s organised, and everyone around her too!

Mum Donna (32) said: “She’s picked her dress
already that her auntie Sarah is getting for her and she’s got a tiara and everything.

‘’She’s also planning a
party for the same day.

‘‘She just gives her orders and we all do it!

“We were surprised but over the moon.

‘’She has been taking part since she was only one, when she was in the fancy dress competition, so she really
deserves it

‘‘She’s really looking forward to it.”

Everything for the day will be planned down to the last detail.

Courney added: “I’ve started planning my arch which I’m keeping a surprise.

‘‘I’ve picked my dress and it’s white and a princess style dress. And my aunt is a hairdresser so she’s going to be doing my hair in curls.”

Although there’s so much to look forward to, Courtney picked out her highlights saying: “I’m really looking forward to getting crowned, and also the procession.

‘‘A lot of friends from my class will be there and it will be great being all dressed up and the centre of attention!”

Mum Donna, dad Gary (31) and younger brother Dylan (7) who will be a Scottish soldier in the gala day, of Woodside Place in Bridgend, are all getting involved in the celebrations.

Courtney added: “I like doing gymnastics and dancing.

‘‘Over the next few months, the majority of the time I will be planning my arch and planning my party for close friends and family.

‘‘I’ve also got some aunties and uncles coming over especially for the day.”
