Queen carries on regardless

Queen Elizabeth reads her speech in the House of Lords

Queen Elizabeth reads her speech in the House of Lords

THE page boy who fell to the floor during the Queen’s Speech to Parliament last week is said to have made a full recovery, although the blow to his pride may take a little longer to heal.

Only minutes into the speech, in which the monarch sets out the government’s stall for the coming political season, there was a loud thunk clearly heard in the House of Lords as the young boy fainted. 12-year-old Charles Adrian Bristow Hope, of Hopetoun House was helped to his feet as Her Majesty carried on with her speech, just a sideways glance giving away that the incident had not gone unnoticed by the Queen, sitting just feet away.

Hopetoun House and Estate at South Queensferry has been in the Hope family name since the late seventeenth century.
