West Lothian Council’s depute provost Dave King accepted a gift of books from West Lothian Libraries to mark Nelson Mandela International Day on July 18.

Councillor King collected the books at Linlithgow Library where the local book club had been reading Mandela’s autobiography.

The donated books are suitable for both younger children and teenagers.

Mandela Day is a celebration of the late Nelson Mandela’s life and legacy.

The books are being collected by Action for Southern Africa (ACTSA) Scotland for school libraries in Nelson Mandela’s home province of Eastern Cape.

One of ACTSA Scotland’s key areas of work is to develop direct contact between individuals and organisations in Scotland and Southern Africa.
