Lumsdaine House is the only B and B in Scotland to achieve a healthyliving award plus, the highest level of recognition for healthy catering in the country.
Yvonne Traynor, project manager for the healthyliving award, said: “The level of commitment shown by Lumsdaine House B and B in producing healthier food is exemplary and they have set a benchmark which all organisations should strive to attain. Lumsdaine House is helping their guests make informed choices by making healthier options widely available and is playing their part in delivering a healthier Scotland.”
Margaret Millican (45), right, has owned Lumsdaine for the past five years, and she said: “I am delighted to receive the award and be recognised as a sector leader in the provision of healthy food. I have always believed in using high-quality produce and preparing it with skill, commitment and passion to create healthy, tasty dishes for my guests.”
Margaret offers a top quality health fuelled breakfast including fresh fruit salad, scones, brown bread, low fat yoghurt and seasonal fruit, such as strawberries, in the summer.
She added: “Breakfast is a treat here - it’s lovely. We are trying to promote things people don’t make for themselves. We use semi-skimmed milk, everything is grilled and there is no salt on the table.”
The healthyliving award plus rewards catering establishments that demonstrate a commitment to supporting healthier eating.
