AN ASSOCIATE minister at St Michael’s Parish Church in
Linlithgow leaves for Mull this week.

Rev John Paton, who has been at the church for five years, has been
appointed to the charge of the North Mull Parishes on the Isle of Mull where he will look after congregations in
Tobermory, Dervaig, Salen and Craignure.

Between them, the four churches have a membership of around 160, compared to over 1000 on the roll at St Michael’s.

The church was well filled last Friday evening when Rev Dr Stewart Gillan, minister of St Michael’s, paid tribute to Mr Paton for his work over the past five years and wished him well for his new ministry. Session clerk Anne Law also spoke and presented Mr Paton with a cheque for more than £2000 as a farewell gift from the congregation. Mrs Cathy Paton received a bouquet of flowers from assistant session clerk Peter Drylie, and after the speeches there was a social gathering in the Kirk Hall with a family ceilidh.

Those attending donated to the West Lothian Foodbank and organiser Marshall Green was delighted with the response.

Rev Paton’s induction on Mull will take place on Tuesday, February 19, at 2pm in Salen church.
