A pride of lions have settled into their new home, just in time for the Christmas festivities.

Five Sisters Zoo in West Calder welcomed four lions, Simba, Sangaka, Mustafa and Tiny, earlier this year who were rescued from a life of cruelty in the circus.

Christmas came early for Simba, Mufasa, Sangaka and Tiny.

Their enclosure was built after a public appeal raised £150,000 and they now spend their days roaming around a two-acre territory with rocks, a waterfall, pool and platform.

Visitor numbers have risen since the arrival of the lions, from 80,000 last year to 120,000.

Lesley Coupar, responsible for marketing and visitor services at the zoo, said: “I can’t believe how laid-back they are. It’s like they have been here for years.”
