Bomb squad in Bo'ness

THE NAVY bomb squad was called out to Bo'ness foreshore after a member of the public alerted police to a small oval-shaped device on a former shipbreaking site.

Three members of the Northern Diving Group team were dispatched from HM Naval Base Clyde, at Faslane, led by a lieutenant on exchange from the Royal Canadian Navy.

They were joined by three officers from Central Scotland Police on the foreshore at Bridgeness in locating the red, grapefruit-shaped device that a passerby had earlier photographed.

A Navy spokesman told the Journal and Gazette the object was not an explosive device and that it was removed by the diving group team, before being disposed of safely back at Faslane.
