Broad appeal
HOUSEHOLDS and businesses in West Lothian which cannot access broadband for technical reasons are being asked to get in touch.
Broadband for Scotland, a Scottish government project, is hoping that those who register their details will be connected by the end of 2008.
A small number of residences — both private and commercial — are still unable to receive broadband services due to the physical distance from their telephone exchange.
Affected areas are widespread and, whilst predominantly a rural issue, so-called "blackspots" can be found in urban, suburban and rural locations across Scotland.
West Lothian Council's executive councillor for development and
transport Martyn Day said: "A new national advertising campaign, currently underway, is hoping to aid the search for those who have tried to order and failed to access broadband.
"Through this campaign, we aim to ensure all those affected are aware of the initiative and register their demand either on the Broadband for Scotland website or by calling 0844 499 2722 before January 18.
"If you are aware of any residents in your area who have tried to order broadband and failed, it would be appreciated if you could direct them to the campaign website or number."
