Catwalks could help community groups
240113 Community fashion event at linlithgow palace using chanel staging.
IT’S timber time for the catwalk constructed for the Chanel fashion show last December,
Historic Scotland has asked local environmental group Transition Linlithgow to find practical uses for around 50 per cent of the wood that makes up the catwalk, expected to come down by the end of February, and they need locals to come forward with ideas, transport solutions, and help from local joiners and carpenters.
Alan Brown of Transition Linlithgow said: “We have a number of different proposals already from various groups – raised beds for allotments, compost bins, a LUCS workshop shelter, summerhouses for sheltered housing, playtime shelters at schools, etc.
“There’s a small amount of metal in the structure and we hope to take that to our local metal recycling business and to make some small contributions to local groups out of the funds.”
He added that storage solutions were also needed, saying: “A temporary storage location has been found at Oatridge Farm, but we also need help with a large enough lorry/trailer for transportation and for strong people to help with loading and unloading.”
The timber has been fire treated so is not suitable for burning. Email or phone Alan Brown of Transition Linlithgow on alan@transitionlinlithgow.org.uk or 01506 670433.
