Ferry kids’ club embezzler is struck off
THE former manager of an after-school care club in Queensferry has been struck off the professional register after embezzling thousands of pounds.
The 45-year-old was convicted at Edinburgh Sheriff Court in March last year of embezzling £4480 between January 1 and July 1, 2011.
She was given a community payback order and ordered to carry out 140 hours of unpaid work. And now the Scottish Social Services Council, which regulates children’s day care workers, has barred her from the profession.
On Wednesday, January 16, the SSSC found McCue had committed misconduct and, as a result, it determined that she be removed from the register.
The SSSC said: “She had, over an extended period of time, embezzled money from her employer. This was fundamentally incompatible with the role of a manager in day care services for children.
‘‘It showed a high level of dishonesty for which no explanation had been given. The day care centre was a small voluntary organisation and her actions could have caused it to be unable to continue in operation.”
It added: “McCue had failed to follow proper procedures and had exploited her employer, service users and colleagues by her actions. In the circumstances such dishonest behaviour fell well short of the standard of conduct expected of a person registered with the Council.”
