Keep warm this winter and cut bills

A WARM welcome was given by Bo'ness resident Andrew Wright to MSP Cathy Peattie, when she popped in to hear about how he's made his home cosier and cut energy bills this winter.

The visit was part of the Warm Homes Campaign, led by charity Energy Action Scotland and backed by ScottishPower.

It highlights the problem of cold and expensive-to-heat homes, and help and support that exists.

Andrew had a new gas central heating system and loft insulation installed thanks to the Scottish Government's energy assistance package.

He said: "I was getting really worried about winter coming because I'm badly affected by the cold. I'm immensely happy – this has made a real difference."

Falkirk East MSP Cathy, the Scottish Parliament's transport, infrastructure and climate change committee deputy convener, said: "It is important that we take the oppor-tunities available to im-prove energy efficiency.

"It is an important contribution to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and minimising our impact on our climate.

"For those with limited means, it is particularly important to make the most of money spent on fuel."

Energy Action Scotland's Barbara Atterson said it was important in the current economic climate to promote initiatives that helped people.

She added: "Through the Warm Homes Campaign, we want to demonstrate to decision-makers in government the continued need for and value of schemes that maximise incomes, reduce fuel bills and improve energy efficiency."

Jim Paterson of ScottishPower said: "We're delighted to be supporting the campaign."
