Kinneil band success

UNISON Kinneil Band were crowned Scottish Second Sections Champions when they took part in the Scottish Brass Band Championships in Perth Concert Hall last Saturday, March 9.

The band produced an extremely musical performance from a number 10 draw of the set test piece ‘The Plantagenet’s’ by Edward Gregson.

Kinneil eventually finished three points above the nearest rival, Bathgate Band, on a total of 187 points from a possible 200.

This is the first time that the band has triumphed at the Scottish Championships for over a decade since the First Section victory back in 1999.

Adjudicators Tony Swainson and Alastair Orr described Kinneil’s winning rendition as ‘a magical performance’ and the win continues the 100 per cent success rate musical director Craig Anderson shares with the band since joining last August.

The band now qualifies to represent Scotland in the Second Section National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in Cheltenham in September and also compete in the 2013 Scottish Challenge Shield and Cup in Perth in November.

The band’s next outing will be at their annual concert in Bo’ness Town Hall on Friday, April 26. Also performing at the championships were Bo’ness and Carriden Silver Band, who competed in the top championship section and finished in ninth place, and Queensferry Community Band, who also finished ninth in the fourth section.
