Queensferry's final countdown
THERE are just five days left for people in Queensferry to submit an objection to the Forth Crossing Bill.
Time is running out fast (January 26) for members of the public to raise their concerns over the proposals for the new crossing.
Already many residents living in areas of Queensferry such as Linn Mill, Society Road, Clufflat, Echline and Springfield, all closest to proposed bridge construction works, have formed action groups and formulated objections to the Bill.
This week the town's community council put forward their objection to the Bill after it sought feedback from residents.
Martin Gallagher, spokesman for the community council's Forth Replacement Sub-Committee, said: "It has to be remembered that when the two crossing options were first presented in 2007 the overwhelming majority of residents surveyed favoured the tunnel option because it would have kept traffic away from Queensferry and linked directly to the motorway network."
While the community council has not raised an objection with regard to specific areas of the proposal, they have objected to the layout of the scheme and the lack of a direct link to the M9 from the new bridge, which will force traffic travelling west to use the new Queensferry junction and the A904 through Newton. They have also raised the closure of the Echline roundabout sliproad onto the A90 which will result in increased traffic along Station Road and in Dalmeny.
The local group BRIGS (Bridge Replacement Interest Group (South) has also submitted a number of objections with members working day and night to complete their objections and confirm their admissibility with the Clerk of Parliament.
