Summer fun for all

Young people can test their DJ skills, learn any number of instruments, have a try at rugby and see how far they can take the bungee run by popping along to this year's Summer Youth Programme.

There's something on every day during the long summer break for 12-18 year olds in communities across the Falkirk Council area – and it's free!

The seven week festival of fun brings music, street football, gaming and healthy lifestyles to thousands of young people throughout the area.

All events carry a strict zero tolerance policy for alcohol and promote healthy lifestyles through a range of workshops and information stalls.

The Summer Youth Programme gets underway on July 1 at the Lido in Stenhousemuir and other events at the following venues:

• 2 July, Gairdoch Park, Carronshore

• 3 July, Wilderness Park, Airth

• 6-7 July, Douglas Park, Bo'ness

• 8-10 July, Zetland Park, Grangemouth

• 13-14 July, Nailer Road Park, Camelon

• 15-17 July, Bainsford Park, Dawson

• 18-21 July, Banknock Primary, Banknock

• 29-30 July, Dunipace Playing Fields Denny & Dunipace

• 31 July, Community Centre, Bonnybridge

• 6-7 August, Community Centre, Maddiston

This year organisers hope to attract upward of 2,000 young people by holding events in the early evening.

And up to 600 young people will also take part in Network Rail's No Messin event on 22 and 24 July. Young people will be taken to Livingston and Hamilton to a Youth Activity Festival which has motor biking, boxing, dance, football, rock climbing and much more. The event also highlights the dangers of playing on railways.

The Summer Youth Programme ends with a two day bash at Callendar Park with free transport available for young people from across the Falkirk Council area.
