Tesco extension is for real say developers
PLANS to extend the Regent Centre and create an extra 75 parking spaces are genuine, developers stressed this week.
In last week’s Journal and Gazette, we reported that The Learmonth Property Investment Company had lodged plans with West Lothian Council to extend the Tesco store by a third, and create a single deck car park on the site.
But the plans attracted speculation from local councillor Martyn Day who questioned whether the paperwork was a tactical move in light of other planning applications, and if it would ever materialise.
But Ronnie Urquhart of Learmonth Property hit back this week saying: “This is not a tactical application, but rather the ongoing development of the Regent Centre. Now is the time to extend it again.
“I would invite the councillor to contact us as we can assure him that this is a real application.
‘’We have had long and meaningful discussions with the planners and Tesco. This is no form of tactic and we are not playing planning games.”
He added that a number of long term jobs would be created for the town as a result of the development, and extending within the town would support existing retail employment.
