Top three neighbourhood complaints falling
DOG FOULING, youth disorder and flytipping were revealed this week as still topping the list of public complaints made to Falkirk Council’s Community Safety Team.
Set up in 2010, its tasks include ensuring people can live in their neighbourhoods without fear of crime, annoyance or abuse.
Litter and dog control complete the five main issues it currently deals with.
Tuesday’s environment and community safety committee was updated on its work.
New measures include:
lthe Young Community Team for primary pupils, helping teach about the impact of anti-social behaviour;
la pilot scheme of walk-in surgeries to discuss concerns;
lordering two bikes for a bicycle patrol trial.
Committee convener Councillor Craig R Martin said: “Litter and dog fouling continues to be a blight in our communities therefore we will continue to use a zero tolerance approach when dealing with offenders.
“We hope to reduce levels of anti-social behaviour in our communities by continuing to maintain our high profile in local communities while building new partnerships with our school community including the new ‘Young Community Team’.”
April to December 2012, complaint figures were (full 2011/12 totals in brackets): dog fouling, 425 (603); youth disorder 261 (329); fly tipping, 108 (131); litter, 86 (96); dog control, 58 (33).
Bo’ness-specific complaint figures were unavailable this week.
But responding to the Journal and Gazette, the council said in respect of enforcement in Bo’ness between last April and this Tuesday:
Thirty-one fixed penalties were dished out for dog fouling, nine for litter offences and one for flytipping; nine cases were referred for prosecution. There were also 10 litter warnings.
Surveys have shown while most complainants say their situations improve with community safety team involvement, there could be improvement in updating them about ongoing actions.
