A LINLITHGOW cycling club has welcomed a £1900 cash injection from this year’s Big Lottery Fund.

West Lothian Clarion Club were delighted with the grant which they will invest in two road bikes, track and mountain bike training for coaches, and trail leader qualifications. The bikes will be used for road and cyclo-cross racing, and will be loaned out to youth riders so they can train and enter races.

Jackie Mason, funding officer at the Clarion, said: “The club is very grateful to the Big Lottery Fund for the grants they have provided. The investment in training coaches is crucial for the further development of our riders.”

Club president David Mason added: “The British success at the Olympics and the Tour de France has inspired our cyclists and the support of the Big Lottery Fund underpins the enthusiasm of our coaches and riders.

“In five short years the club has grown to over 200 members including over 60 youth riders who enjoy the simple pleasures and fitness benefits of riding a bicycle. We are keen to attract and support youths of all ages and have a number of teenagers who regularly compete at the velodrome, MTB races, cyclocross and road racing.”

Linlithgow MSP Fiona Hyslop also congratulated the club on their recent success adding: “This is fantastic news for the West Lothian Clarion Club. The club offers a great opportunity to meet new people and get active this summer.”
