West Lothian Council cuts soar to £60 million
PLANNED budget cuts of £45m across West Lothian Council over the next few years will rise to a staggering £60 million.
A fresh look at figures found the new cuts total stands at around 58.5m over the next four years, with an 'unprecedented' 20m to be found for 2011/12.
Council chiefs are calling the situation ''very challenging''.
The council's financial position was re-calculated following an assessment of the UK Emergency Budget and a summary of the Scottish Government's Independent Budget Review – but the figure is still a guesstimate until full information in available in November.
For more details on the decisions that will have to be made, see the Journal and Gazette out on Friday September 3.
