West Lothian’s first Fairtrade Day

Fairtrade fortnight.

Fairtrade fortnight.

WEST Lothian will have its very first Fairtrade Day on Friday, March 1.

The special day, thought to be the first approved by a local authority in Scotland, will be held during Fairtrade Fortnight, Monday, February 25 to Sunday, March 10, and is being organised by the West Lothian Fairtrade Zone Steering Group.

Councillor John McGinty, chair of the Fairtrade Zone Steering Group, said: “Holding a Fairtrade Day provides a focus for Fairtrade Fortnight activities and aims to complement the activities being planned locally by Fairtrade Groups.

“One of the highlights of Fairtrade Day will be a debate on Fairtrade by two secondary schools. This will be the first schools’ debate to take place in the Council Chambers at West Lothian Civic Centre.”

Other activities will take place at West Lothian College, St John’s Hospital, West Lothian Council’s Partnership Centres and the Centre in Livingston.
