Winchburgh plans reach next stage

PERMISSION has been requested to
cement updated plans in the Winchburgh redevelopment project.

In the first phase of development by
Regenco, house building will be followed by the creation of a new town centre, and
transformation of the area behind the old Beatlie school, as the location for the first new primary school.

It was reported to a council committee in December 2011 that the area to the rear of Beatlie would be the most likely
location for the new school, rather than Glen-devon, which featured in the original
masterplan. This application to West Lothian Council formalises that position.

Mary Miller, secretary at Winchburgh Community Council said the move did not affect the local group, but she did voice
concerns about the prospect of development at Burghmuir and/or Clarendon in Linlithgow, proposed in recent planning applications. She is worried that this could mean Linlithgow Academy will fill up, excluding children at Winchburgh, who will not have their own new secondary school built until 500 homes have been sold.

The first five years of the Winchburgh
development include up to 550 homes, non denominational and Roman Catholic secondary schools, extension and refurbishment of existing primary schools, work on Beatlie Primary School and new town centre.
