Linlithgow Academy’s music department was celebrating this week after one of its competing bands made it to the finals of the Battle of the Bands competition.
Three of the school’s bands took part in the annual competition at Bathgate Academy on April 23, with Long Way Home making it to the final on June 17.
The competition is open to schools across West Lothian schools and aims to showcase emerging musical talent.
Karen Macleod, principal teacher of music at Linlithgow Academy, said: “Three of our bands competed in the second heat at Bathgate Academy and one made it through to the final.
“I can’t even put into words how impressed I was with our 12 pupils!
“Not only did they all play superbly but their behaviour, attitude, camaraderie and support for the other bands was a joy to see. It was a fantastic night!”
Special mention was made of Finlay Anderson, an S4 student who plays guitar in Pork Chop Express with the very real possibility of Finlay and his band gigging as a support act at some stage in the future.
This year’s first prize is a slot at Bathgate Music Festival’s Steelyard event on Saturday, September 6, in addition to a fantastic equipment package from sponsors, Freshman Guitars.
Second prize is a recording package from North Road Studios with third prize of a £100 gift voucher from DC Music in Broxburn.
Tickets for the final are available from Bathgate’s Regal Theatre box office on 01506 630085 or online.
