Two Bo’ness schoolgirls were so moved by the plight of family cancer victims they decided to raise money to help further research into the disease.
Neighbours Lauren Kinnaird (10) and Shannon Meikle (9), both of Craigallan Park in Bo’ness, discovered while chatting that each had members of their own families who had suffered from the disease in the past.
This inspired them to raise money to donate for research purposes, a cause they chose to support by giving the cash to a local charity shop.
They went collecting round doors in their own area of Bo’ness and raised over £45 in total.
Lauren, a pupil at Deanburn Primary School, said: ‘’We did it because we were moved as a few of our friends and family have had cancer.
‘‘We also knew of a few people who had died of cancer, so we just wanted to help.
Shannon, a pupil at Bo’ness Public School, said: ‘’We feel really good and happy. Our parents were very kind and are really proud of us.’’
The money was handed over to the Marie Curie Cancer Care shop in North Street, Bo’ness, on Wednesday afternoon.
