This quaint, historic canal side cottage – dating from about 1870 – is situated on the banks of the Union Canal at the western end of Winchburgh, which boasts excellent transport links with the main motorway networks, rail and flight centres.

Present owners Derek and Valerie Gorman have lived there for 30 years, along with their family. But, they have now decided to retire and a smaller property is on the cards.

Derek said: “It has been a great house for the family; a beautiful, tranquil place with the canal literally on the front door. Barges pass regularly and the passengers always give a wee wave.

“It’s been an amazing place to live that we have so many fond memories of.”

The cottage is entered from a bright, good-sized hallway with windows on both the south and east walls. Situated across from the kitchen, there is an ideal area for dining with room for a table and chairs. The kitchen has a very contemporary feel with contrasting work surfaces and wood finish units, an integrated oven and hood and a breakfast bar. The sitting room is spacious with a working open fireplace. There are windows on three walls making it very light and airy. There is a family bathroom off the hall. The master bedroom has free-standing wardrobes and an en-suite with a shower.

There is also a utility room suitably plumbed. All three double bedrooms are an excellent size with neutrally decorated walls. The house sits in extensive gardens and there is a brick-built garden store. The house has secure parking, double glazing and gas central heating.
