Andrew Kean, known more fondly as Drew to his family and close friends, was the youngest of five children born in Gatehouse of Fleet on the 16th June 1941.
His father had a bakery business so Drew had little choice in his careeroptions but to follow in his father’s footsteps. On his father’s death in 1965, Drew, his brother and mother formed a partnership which lasted until 1975.
Drew met his wife Margaret and they married in 1966. They went on to have three children, a son and two daughters, Stephen, Catriona and Debbie. They were Drew and Margaret’s pride and joy and he regularly took delight in engaging customers with tales as the family grew up.
In January 1977, he and his wife Margaret bought St Michaels bakery in Linlithgow.
Both Drew and Margaret worked extremely hard on building up their new business, ‘Keans the Bakers’ until 2002 when they took a well-earned retirement.
Drew was a very keen Mason joining the lodge at age 18 and becoming the Master of Lodge St.Stephen 161 at the age of 31.
It became his lifelong passion and he joined the Royal Order of Scotland eventually becoming affiliated to Lodge Ancient Brazen.
Drew was also an enthusiastic member of the Rotary Club of Linlithgow and Bo’ness. He took an active part in many of the committees before becoming president in 2011/12.
When not caravanning his favourite holidays were cruising with several visits to New Zealand, Tasmania and Sydney to name but a few.
Drew always had time for people and he liked nothing better than a good chat.
Sadly, Drew spent most of last year in ill health, but bore that with his usual good grace.
He passed away peacefully on January 27 leaving his wife Margaret ,two daughters and a son, eight grandchildren and one great grandchild.
